I've been doing a fair amount of work in the radio room over the weekend, as the missus is making use of half the space to set up her remote work office. This is not an invasion on her part, it is something that I have all but insistend that she do for some time, and the prospect of knee surgery and having to work from home for an extended period of time during her recovery has pushed her into making a good showing of this.
In any case -- I've been expanding and upping my electronics game back ther, as I am approaching some development centered on some bespoke devices made with esp32 MCUs and generally trying to improve the conditions back there so I've been spending a bit of time with that. The bigger score so far is getting straightened up for a consolidation/joining of workbenches, so I can spread out the soldering/wiring operation and incorporate the o-scope, multimeter, and network spectrum analyser. Then I will be able to work on All The Things with some overlap, and hopefully not have domains overwhelming each other back there (like they have been doing in the garage). Speaking of which, and domains that overlap, a similar operation is being undertaken in the garage. One area where they have overlapped are in putting away monitors. I packed up into plastic storage boxes no less than a dozen digital studio monitors, between 15 and 27" for storage. That still leaves no less than 10 digital monitors and televisions in use. Not kidding, and that doesn't include mobile screens.
My first struggle this morning: setting the time on the raspberry pi4 where the mcu programming is happening. You see, bc of a window stacking bug in wayland was causing this machine to randomely lock up for minutes at a time, I reinstalled trixie on the thing (kinda hard to call a raspi a 'box') CLI only, then added Xorg and openbox to keep it lean and light. Unfortunately, you miss out on a lot of 'extras' doing things this way, that you later have to fill in yourself. Apparrently, time and date management tools are some of thos things, so my shit is on universal time until I can make the shit work.
I really just want to dev on the mcu, I am so fucking sick of administering systems that maintainers keep chainging out of a perceived need to make things fresh and new.
If it is working, just fucking leave it alone, MMM K? jfc.
Wow that rant felt good. Too bad it didnt solve the problem.
